Pieter Smits is a Belgian Roman Catholic, is married, and has two children.
He’s a member of the Flemish Christian democratic party (CD&V), and is an elected member for this party in the municipality of Schelle. Within this party, he’s also co-founder of ‘Stuurboord’ (Starboard); a group that promotes the revival of the conservative values within the party.
On the European level, Pieter is active as president of ECPYouth, an organisation which endeavours to restore Christian values throughout the European Union, as well as Europe as a whole.
Within the conservative movement, Pieter is an enthusiastic supporter of ‘Distributism’, a movement under the umbrella of ‘Relational Thinking’.
His favourite quote, attributed to G.K. Chesterton:
‘Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist. We already know that dragons exist. Fairy tales tell us that dragons can be beaten.’
